Sports history was made at the GM Place Arena in Vancouver, B.C. this weekend as two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash received the Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award.
The award was presented at center court during halftime of Nash’s annual charity game by Ian Naismith, grandson of basketball’s inventor, Dr. James Naismith.
There have been 39 recipients of the prestigious award from the Naismith family. Nash is only the second active player to receive the trophy. Michael Jordan was the first.
The scene, and an interview with Steve Nash, was filmed for inclusion in Frozen Picture’s documentary film, Basketball Man, the first documentary to tell the story of Dr. Naismith’s life. The feature is set for release on DVD and in theatres in the Fall.
